About the Journal

  • Panjab University Law Review is a half-yearly publication of the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh since 1951 having circulation in India and abroad. It is a refereed and peer-reviewed journal.
  • This Journal publishes research papers, articles, book reviews, case comments, etc., which are duly assessed and reviewed by a panel of experts and is exclusively devoted to the publication of original high-standard contributions. Besides Law, this journal also invites original articles from different fields of Social Sciences like Commerce, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, etc.
  • The vision of this academic journal is to provide a platform to academicians, professionals, and students to express their views in a manner conducive to educating readers about various dimensions of the law as it stands and the law as it should be. Throughout the years, the editorial boards have attempted to maintain threshold quality while ensuring consistent issue frequency. The Panjab University Law Review also seeks to sustain and support legal excellence through its continued standards of publication.
  • It is worth mentioning that the Department of Laws, Panjab University has seen a steady increase in readership, article submissions, and citations. Our reputation and visibility in the academic community continue to broaden, and our editorial board constantly reassesses and revises the editorial process to ensure an efficient and satisfying experience for authors and readers alike.

Author Guidelines

Before preparing your manuscript, authors must read and understand the guidelines. Submissions that do not comply or use a different format will be rejected by the Editorial Team before review. Manuscripts must meet the specified formatting requirements (downloadable via the Template).

Manuscript Categories

  • Research Paper/Review Article: 5,000 to 6,000 words
  • Book Review: Around 2,500 words
  • Case Comment: Around 3,000 words

Note: The word limit is inclusive of footnotes.

  1. Manuscripts devoid of any legal phenomenon or approach may be rejected outright. Every manuscript must be clearly labeled as: Research Paper/Review Article, Case Comment, or Book Review.
  2. The author is required to take note of:
    • Originality of the theme
    • Novelty of the subject
    • Clarity of the idea
    • Systematic presentation of the subject
    • Linkage of conclusion with the contents
  3. All manuscripts must be accompanied by:
    • A covering letter with the name(s) of the author(s), official designation, institution/affiliation, title of the manuscript, complete postal address, e-mail address, and mobile number.
    • A plagiarism report/certificate from recognized similarity checking software (e.g., Urkund or Turnitin). Submissions with a plagiarism content of more than 10% or copyright issues will not be accepted.
    • A certificate stating that the manuscript is an original work and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
    • An abstract of 200–250 words along with 3–5 keywords describing the work and its significance.
  4. All manuscripts submitted to the journal should be written in British English only, utilizing 's' in '-ise' and '-isation' words.
  5. The text must be in MS-Word format, Times New Roman style, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, one-inch margins on all four sides, and justified alignment. All headings should have uniform formatting.
  6. Footnotes should be in font size 10 and Times New Roman style. Lengthy and multi-paragraph footnotes should be avoided.
  7. The name of the author/co-author should not appear anywhere in the text of the manuscript. Co-authorship is permissible for up to 3 authors. Not more than one submission will be accepted from an author whether writing individually or jointly.
  8. We strictly follow a blind peer-review process where reviewer and author identities are withheld from each other. All identifying information must be removed from the manuscript.
  9. Bibliographic details of all works cited must be given separately at the end of the paper in alphabetical order, following the format in Annexure A. Citations of law-related works must follow the Bluebook 19th Edition format.
  10. Tables, graphs, and figures must be numbered consecutively. Table titles should appear above, and sources at the bottom.
  11. Only works that have not been published earlier or considered elsewhere will be entertained.
  12. Mere submission does not confer any claim for publication. The Editorial Board reserves all rights concerning publication decisions and guideline interpretations, which shall be final.
  13. Once published, copyright over the manuscript vests with the Panjab University Law Review.
  14. All manuscripts must be submitted via the Open Journal System server: https://lawsojs.pu.ac.in/
  15. Contributors can track the status of their manuscript through the online tracking system.
  16. Contributors will be charged a fee of Rs. 500/- for a physical published copy of the journal; a free copy of the e-paper will be provided.
